Investigator at Public Health Medicine
Public Health Medicine is Region Gävleborg's strategic knowledge and analysis department. Using scientifically grounded methods, the department produces decision support, investigations, and follow-ups that support corporate management, politics, and administrations.
Public Health Medicine works to understand needs, strengthen governance, and promote quality within all of Region Gävleborg's operations. Through environmental analysis, epidemiological monitoring, and statistical analyses, the department ensures that the organization operates based on the best available knowledge. We are also Region Gävleborg's special statistics operation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As an investigator at Public Health Medicine, you will play a central role in strengthening the region's knowledge governance through analyses and assessments. You will produce decision support, evaluations, and impact analyses that support regional management, politics, and administrations. The work includes developing and monitoring indicators, compiling statistical data, and conducting both overview and in-depth analyses within healthcare, public health, and other areas of operation. As an investigator, you are expected to work with both quantitative and qualitative methods.
For this position, there will be a certain focus on quantitative methods, statistics, public economics, and health economics. The position involves working with data processing, statistical analyses, and economic assessments such as cost-benefit analyses, cost-effectiveness studies, and quantitative modeling. Generally, the assignment includes study design, data collection, processing, and analysis using programs such as R, Power BI, SQL, and Excel. You are responsible for ensuring quality, transparency, and methodological rigor in the analysis chain.
The role includes presenting results both orally and in writing, as well as translating complex analyses into clear conclusions for decision-makers. You actively contribute to the region's knowledge governance and long-term development work. The work is carried out both independently and in close collaboration with other investigators, where joint methodological discussions and quality assurance are a natural part of the work process, as well as in dialogue with employees from other operations.
As an investigator with us, you will work with:
- conducting quantitative analyses and producing statistical data
- performing public economic and health economic assessments
- developing, monitoring, and analyzing indicators within the region's operations
- modeling and processing data in R, Power BI, SQL
- producing decision support and conducting in-depth investigations
- presenting results and supporting the region's knowledge governance
- conducting investigations within all areas of responsibility of Region Gävleborg, based on a broad methodological repertoire.

QUALIFICATIONS
To succeed in this role, you need to have a strong analytical ability and a solid foundation in quantitative methods. You can work with complex datasets, build models, and conduct public economic and health economic analyses that maintain high methodological quality. You easily switch between overview analyses and in-depth investigations, and you can present conclusions in a pedagogical and decision-relevant manner. The role also requires good collaboration skills, as the work often takes place in close dialogue with colleagues and various parts of the organization. You also need to be able to work independently and manage assignments with varying time horizons.
In the role of investigator, you should have:
- a master's degree in, for example, economics, statistics, public health science, or another education that the employer considers equivalent
- very good knowledge of quantitative methods and statistical analysis
- knowledge of qualitative methods
- knowledge of public economic or health economic analyses
- experience with software such as R, Power BI, SQL, or similar
- very good ability to express yourself in Swedish in speech and writing.
It is an advantage if you have worked with public economic or health economic models in practice, preferably in the public sector, research, or advanced analytical environments. Experience in developing indicators, working with registry data, or producing impact analyses and decision support with a clear connection to governance and follow-up is also valuable. If you have also worked with data visualization, GIS, or in environments where environmental monitoring and method development are a natural part of everyday life, we see it as a strength. Experience in politically governed organizations is an advantage.
